After the fun we had at our first Greyhounds Reach the Beach, we decided to attend another annual greyhound event on the East Coast, the Greyhounds in Gettysburg festival in Gettyburg, Pennsylvania.
The centerpiece of this April festival is a Saturday morning stroll of the fields where the Battle of Gettysburg took place. We joined over a hundred greyhounds and their owners for a 3-mile walk along the paved pathways and roads of the park. After our walk, we got in the van and drove to a dog-friendly restaurant called Distlefinks. We ate out back on a picnic blanket along with many other folks before heading to the vendor tents on the outskirts of town, where all the hounds were treated to some doggie ice cream.
That evening, we went on a Gettyburg ghost tour, where a tour guide walked us around the center of town, telling us stories of hauntings related to the Battle of Gettysburg. When we got back to our hotel room, Tyler and Carrie wasted no time in making themselves comfortable on one of the beds.
The next morning was a wash-out: event organizers had a baseball field reserved for the hounds to run around in, but it was raining too hard to run safely. We hit the vendor tents one more time before heading home.
