We were looking to adopt a senior (7+ years old) when we heard about Carrie, who lived with another family for five years before being returned to her adoption group. She is a pretty active dog for her age and has quite a personality: she enjoys moving footwear and sometimes bathmats into the living room, and she will demand affection by nudging your hands or (if you stop petting her) snapping at you. Her most distinctive physical trait, besides her color, are her ears, which stand straight up when she's paying attention.
Carrie became a very finicky eater around Thanksgiving of 2008. First we attributed it to her getting old - all our older dogs got picky - then we thought maybe her tummy was upset because of her arthritis medication, but after changing her medications with no improvement, we had abdominal radiographs done. They found a mass. We took her to get an ultrasound and learned it was a large, complex tumor and surgical excision probably wasn't possible. A few days later, her appetite severely declined and her pain increased beyond our ability to control, so we sent her to the Bridge on February 24, 2009. Run pain free, baby girl.
